Of all the battleships sailing the seas in the last 50 years the Britannia class owned by the Crown was considered the heaviest. Until the Empire launched the heavy battleship Kongo-class. One of the most feared warships of the dystopian era the Kongo-class was crewed by some of the finest sailors in Japan. The design of this giant always included the highest possible armor while maintaining speed and maneuverability at the level permitted by Japan's finest naval engineers. Named after a legendary mountain in Osaka Prefecture this ship fully deserves its name. With its thick armor plating and powerful armament the Kongo-class is the pride of the Japanese navy.
The support cruisers assigned to the battle fleets alongside the Kongo are quite diverse. From the impressive heavy cruiser Hokkaido to the agile Monitor Kanagawa there's a suitable cruiser variant for every mission. Japanese cruiser groups are typically accompanied by Chita automated submarines. These engineering marvels rival the mechanical creations of the Enlightened Alliance and serve to protect the fleet from underwater threats and support attacks. Although the Chita were designed to operate independently for extended periods they lack the durability of the much larger Kaiju-class automata. The Ishikawa strike cruiser and Yamaguchi attack cruiser are essential for keeping these escorts out of drydock and their moon pools allow Chita repairs and refueling.
Okinawa- and Miyagi-class cruisers are equipped with a limited number of reconnaissance aircraft which act as observers and provide limited air defense. They can also conduct bombing raids on enemy ships if necessary but usually only with the support of other aircraft.
The Japanese favor Kyoto frigates for patrols between their homeland's remote islands. The ships are ideally suited to this task and for new sailors a year on Kyoto is their first experience with the proud traditions of the Blazing Sun Navy.
The Kongo Battlefleet set contains eleven multi-part plastic and resin figures:
